“The world is but a canvas to the imagination.”
— Henry David Thoreau
Classroom Approach
I strive to foster creativity in my students through various engaging activities. For instance, I often introduce open-ended art projects that allow my students to explore their imagination freely. One example is a project where students are given a prompt, such as "create a piece that represents your happiest memory," and are encouraged to interpret and express it in their unique way. Additionally, I incorporate discussions about professional artists and their diverse work to inspire students to experiment with new techniques. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel empowered to take artistic risks, I aim to nurture their creative spirit and individuality.
Welcome!
About Me
Art has been a passion of mine since childhood. From crafting stories and painting vibrant pictures to turning everyday materials into imaginative creations, my journey in the arts has been a lifelong adventure. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the College for Creative Studies in 2020, and I am currently pursuing my teaching certification at CCS, with graduation anticipated in December of 2024.
Teaching Philosophy
My mission as an art educator is to support and nurture each student’s unique creativity and spark a passion for the arts that can follow them into adulthood. I approach every student with empathy and genuine care, appreciating the collaborative journey we embark on together. My teaching philosophy is grounded in respect, connection, and the unwavering belief in the potential of every student. I recognize that each student possesses inherent strengths that can empower them to excel, and it is my responsibility as an educator to harness these strengths while providing support through their challenges.
I firmly believe that fostering a respectful and inclusive classroom environment is essential for nurturing creativity. Building authentic connections with my students is one of the most rewarding aspects of my role, and witnessing the creativity of young minds is a constant source of inspiration. I hold the belief that the learning process is reciprocal; I learn just as much from my students as they do from me. Together we can explore the endless world of creativity! I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to guide and learn alongside them.
Experience
From 2021 to 2024 I was the art instructor at the Montessori Center of Our Lady in Livonia, MI. I taught art to a variety of students ranging from preschool to 2nd grade and ran two summer camp programs for those students. I learned many things from my time at MCOL, including the importance of building authentic connections with students and witnessing the creativity of young minds. Mt students are a constant source of inspiration for me, and I love introduce open-ended art projects that allow my students to explore their imagination freely. During my time in this role I created unique lesson plans to teach both art history and traditional art skills to the young students, while allowing them to explore their creativity through open ended projects. I also maintained a positive learning environment for my students, allowing a safe space for learning and artistic development.
